The measurement was performed according to the accepted international protocol in this area (Green House Gas Protocol)
Harel Insurance & Finance Group leads a green trend and is the first among the Israeli insurance companies who performed an extensive measurement of its "carbon footprint", through measurement of the greenhouse gas emissions of the company, as part of the efforts invested by the company in order to reduce its impact on the environment.
Measurement was conducted according to the accepted international protocol in this area: The Greenhouse Gas Protocol GHG – a leading protocol for voluntary calculation and report of the greenhouse gas emissions inventory by an organization or project.
The test was carried out by Good Vision Company, consultants in corporate responsibility, and in cooperation with the International GCX Company engaged in carbon management for organizations, including measuring the carbon footprint, carbon offset projects and trading carbon emissions rights.
The report measured the greenhouse gas emissions of the group in 2009, and includes the details of direct emissions (from transport and air conditioninggas), and indirect emissions (electricity consumption, paper consumption, water consumption and amount ofoffice waste.) Themeasuredoutcome stands on 10481.94 tons of carbon dioxide –a totalof Harel's emissions for 2009. This result constitutes the basis for future reduction goals, and building a work plan that focuses on reducing themain cause of the group's carbon emissions, which stems from electricity consumption.
